About Us

The Department of English Language and Literature started admitting students in the academic year of 1993-1994. Since then, the department has been conducting educational activities in the fields of literature, linguistics, translation, and language education. The main aim of the department is to provide the best education in the field of English Language and Literature with a multifaceted approach to enhance students' professional and personal development. The medium of instruction is English. Additionally, the department aims to increase students' fluency in the English language and help them improve their reading, speaking, and writing skills. To achieve this goal, classes are held in fully equipped classrooms where students have access to computer systems, the internet, and projection devices. The academic staff consists of a total of twenty faculty members, including three professors, four associate professors, five assistant professors, four lecturers, and two research assistant. One of our professors is a foreign national, and his knowledge of English culture provides students with the opportunity to be familiar with English history and literature topics. The curriculum covers not only literature but also language education and linguistics courses. In addition to academic studies, students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities such as staging theatre plays, joining reading clubs, participating in discussion sessions, or organizing tours to historical sites. In addition to undergraduate courses, the department also offers master's and doctoral programs. Graduates of our department can be employed in various fields, particularly tourism, foreign relations, commerce, and especially education.
