History

The Department of English Language and Literature was established in the academic year 1993-1994. Since then, the department has been conducting educational activities in the fields of literature, linguistics, translation, and language teaching. The primary aim of the department is to provide students with the best possible education in English Language and Literature through a versatile approach, fostering both their professional and personal development. Additionally, the department aims to enhance students' fluency in the English language and improve their reading, speaking, and writing skills by offering classes in fully equipped classrooms with access to computer systems, the internet, and projection devices. Our academic staff consists of a total of 17 faculty members, including three professors, three associate professors, five assistant professors, four lecturers, and two research assistants. one of our professors is foreign national, bringing expertise in English history and literature, enriching students' familiarity with English culture. The curriculum encompasses not only literature courses but also language teaching and linguistics courses. In addition to academic studies, students are encouraged to engage in extracurricular activities such as staging theater plays, participating in reading clubs, organizing debate sessions, or arranging tours to historical sites. In addition to undergraduate courses, our department also offers graduate and doctoral programs. Graduates of our department can find employment in various fields such as tourism, foreign affairs, commerce, and particularly in education.
